Governor Jim Gibbons released the following statement today regarding the death of U.S. Army Sgt. Alfred G. Paredez, 32, who was killed in Baghdad, Iraq when an improvised explosive device (IED) struck his vehicle.
Sgt. Paredez, whose home of record is listed as Las Vegas, was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
“I was saddened by the recent news of Army Sgt. Alfred G. Paredez’s death, and offer my deepest sympathy to his family and friends during these difficult times".
"As we mourn the loss of this solider, we honor all Nevadans who have made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as those who continue to put themselves in harm’s way".
"Those who have accepted this difficult task make tremendous sacrifices to defend our freedom and spread democracy throughout the world".
"I thank our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines, for their courageous service to our country.”
In honor of Sgt. Paredez, flags at the Nevada State Capitol will be flown at half-staff.
