Road Rage Leads to Murder in Thursday's Fatal Shooting in Sparks

SPARKS, NV - Sparks police say it appears road rage led to the killing of a man Thursday afternoon.

Police say 18-year-old Guillermo Padilla-Martinez was riding in a blue Saturn with one other man when a black SUV containing the victim and three other men was reportedly tailgating his car.

According to police, when the two cars yielded to a stop sign at Greenbrae and Rock Boulevard, Padilla-Martinez and his passenger from the Saturn jumped out of the car to confont the victim that had exited the SUV. They began to fight and yell says police.

Police say during the course of the fighting Padilla-Martinez pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot the victim dead. He and his passenger then jumped back into the Saturn and drove off, crashing a short distance away with the driver of the SUV following.

Both men walked away from the crash and were picked up a short time later, and after being questioned, police arrested Padilla-Martinez for the shooting, as well as possession of a stolen firearm.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name hasn't been released.
