Burglary Suspects Arrested in Incline

On November 2, 2007 at approximately 1:00am, A Washoe County Deputy in the area of Second Creek in Incline Village observed a suspicious vehicle.

Upon making contact with the female, Serena Hanson, 24 of Reno, the deputy discovered stolen property, drug paraphernalia and that Hanson was on probation for a burglary charge.

The vehicle she was driving had been stolen from a car rental lot.

Hanson was arrested and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed items belonging to local residents.

Deputies investigated and discovered several vehicles in the immediate area had been burglarized.

At 4:00 am, a second suspect was identified as Stephen Atkinson, 32 of Fallon, and located with property linking him to the vehicle burglaries as well as burglaries in the Reno area.

Further investigation revealed Atkinson had stolen a vehicle from the Incline area in an effort to return to Reno before he was located.

He had attempted to pick up his accomplice, Hanson, and stole another vehicle before being arrested.

The vehicle stolen from Incline was located in Reno near Clearacre and McCarran and was returned to the victim.

Atkinson has been linked to burglaries of cars from a local rental car lot.

Atkinson also had a stolen passport in his possession which he was using for identification and is linked to numerous vehicle burglaries in both Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and Reno Police Department jurisdictions.

The investigation is on going and more charges may be pending.

Atkinson has the following charges:

Burglary
3 counts of Vehicle Burglary
Grand Larceny Auto
Forgery
Uttering Forged Instrument
Possession of Hypodermic
Speeding
Resisting a Public Officer
3 counts of Possession of Stolen Property
2 counts of Using ID Information
with a $50,845.00 bail.

Hanson is being held on a charge of Probation Violation and Possession of Stolen Property with a $2500.00 bail.
