It's the biggest diamond of its kind ever to appear at auction -- and it's been sold for nearly 16.2 million dollars.
The 84.37-carat white diamond was touted by auctioneer Sotheby's
for its size and beauty. It's the biggest top-quality, brilliant-cut white diamond ever auctioned.
The winning bid came from Georges Marciano, the founder of the Guess clothing company.
It fell just short of the all-time auction record for a stone or piece of jewelry.
The bid was made by phone to the auction in Geneva.
The auction also featured other diamonds, colored stones and gems from the world's leading jewelers.
