Richard Sorenson Died

Reno resident and Medal of Honor recipient, Richard Sorenson has died.
The World War Two Veteran was a young Marine Private when he smothered a Japanese grenade thrown into a foxhole he shared with 5 other marines. That was in 1944 in the Marshall Islands. He was severely wounded, but saved the lives of his fellow marines. Sorenson received the Medal of Honor, which is the highest award for valor.
He died in Reno on October 9th. A memorial service will be held at Mountain View Mortuary at 11:30am on Monday, October 18th, 2004.
