Renown Regional Medical Center opened it's new 275-million dollar Tahoe Tower to visitors Sunday. The expansion adds 190 new patient rooms.
Kids had the chance to operate on a pumpkin in one of 17 new operating rooms. The new facility features high definition monitors, and even the ability to play music during surgery.
Throughout the building, air replacement technology is designed to help prevent infections. Air is removed and fresh pumped in -- in some locations 26 times an hour, according to Renown.
The building is designed with an artist's touch all to create a calming effect. Renown says that includes a healing garden now in the works, and patient rooms that are said to have similar features to a luxury hotel.
In additional to being designed for comfort, the ten story building doubles Renown's surgical capabilities.
"Anywhere in the country this would be leading edge," Newton Chase of Renown said.
Renown says the tower should be fully open by the end of February.
