210 North Invites Reno-Sparks To Paint The Town Pink On November 9

Reno nightclub 210 North is throwing a first anniversary party with a purpose: raising breast cancer awareness and funds for local breast cancer programs with a Pink Party, 7-9 pm, Friday, November 9, at 210 N. Sierra St. in downtown Reno.

All proceeds will benefit breast cancer programs of Susan G. Komen for the Cure Northern Nevada Affiliate.

The club will open its doors hours earlier than usual for the event which promises deejay stylings for a wide variety of musical tastes, body art painting, graffiti art and more surprises.

210 North will host pink Cosmopolitans and rose champagne with strawberries along with light hors d’oeuvres.

Other drinks and 210 North’s bar menu will be available for sale.

Rather than a cover charge, donations to Komen will be accepted at the door.

“This anniversary party is in celebration of breast cancer survivors and the friends and family who support them,” said Julia Peaua, 210 North marketing and public relations representative.

“We’ve wanted to do something to support breast cancer survivors for a long time, since many of us who work here at 210 North, including me, have a loved one who’s been touched by breast cancer,” she added.

Giving the party a pink theme and giving back to the local breast cancer community was “an automatic,” said Peaua.

“What we love about Komen is what good stewards they are with their funds – so much goes to programming and so little to administration. We’re so excited to tie in our first anniversary with something so important,” she added.

Party decor will include a display of poster-sized photos from the recent 2007 Komen Race for the Cure.

One of the photos will be chosen by two artists, one a graffiti artist and the other a body painter, who will interpret the image on canvas and figure model.

“Body art is a bit cutting edge, so we checked the idea with breast cancer survivors, and they all said they were excited to see the female form celebrated in this manner,” said Linda Smith, Northern Nevada Komen Affiliate board president.

The Northern Nevada Affiliate is one of more than 125 Susan G. Komen for the Cure Affiliates in the U.S. and internationally.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure, leader of the global breast cancer movement, has raised more than $1 billion for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs since its inception 25 years ago.

The Komen Northern Nevada Affiliate has in the past eight years awarded more than $1.25 million for community breast cancer programs as well as additional contributions to Komen’s Foundation Award and Research Program to fund medical research to find a cure.
