RENO, Nev. (AP) - The controversial annexation of the Ballardini Ranch is on hold.
Owners of the thousand-acre ranch in the foothills southwest of Reno have withdrawn their annexation request. They say advisers need more time to study what they call the "political tangle" in getting a project approved.
The annexation was scheduled to come before the Reno City Council on December 12th. But the council last week had an impromptu debate in which several members questioned whether the city could remove the development from its annexation territory.
The council also asked for a legal analysis on whether the city is required to honor a court settlement between Washoe County and developers in which the county agreed not to oppose any future rezoning for up to three-thousand homes.
