Nevada senior Marcelus Kemp has been named one of 50 preseason candidates for the 2007-08 John R. Wooden Award recognizing the top college basketball player in the nation.
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Seattle averaged 18.5 points per game last season. A first-team all-Western Athletic Conference selection, he briefly entered the NBA Draft last spring but withdrew to return to the Wolf Pack for his final year of eligibility.
Utah State senior guard Jaycee Carroll is the only other player from the WAC named to the preseason list announced today by The Los Angeles Athletic Club's Wooden Award Committee.
The list is led by two returning Wooden all-Americans - North Carolina center Tyler Hansbrough and Kansas guard Brandon Rush.
