Temporary Road Closure While Virginia Street Bridge Is Being Repaired

Beginning Monday, October 22, Virginia Street will be closed to all traffic from Mill Street to First Street while repairs are done to the Virginia Street Bridge.

All northbound traffic on Virginia Street will be detoured at Mill Street to Center Street. All Southbound traffic will be detoured at First Street to Sierra Street then to Court Street.

This closure is expected to last until November 16, 2007.

Granite Construction has been awarded the contract and will be performing the repair work to the middle pier of the bridge where streambed material has eroded away.

Concrete slurry and additional stabilizers will be used to fill the area where erosion has occurred.

The need to make repairs to the bridge was discovered during a routine
bridge inspection by the Nevada Department of Transportation.

As part of the Truckee River Flood Control Project, the Virginia Street Bridge will be replaced in the next several years.

The current repair work will help to minimize further damage to the bridge during the higher river flow months.
