If the Truckee Meadows Water Authority has its way, every house it serves will be on a meter by some time next year.
Every house in Reno and Sparks now is on a meter, as are most of those in Washoe County.
The authority wants meter in the eleven-thousand homes that currently are paying a flat rate.
Authority members agreed yesterday that would be only fair to the 77-thousand customers who volunteered to switch meters or who bought homes or businesses required to have meters.
They say the average metered customer uses 150-thousand gallons a year versus 250-thousand gallons a year for flat-rate customers.
The board wants a plan to approve in January.
