Two Charged In Reno In Calif. Kidnapping

A California man and an accomplice were arrested after they allegedly kidnapped the man's girlfriend and brought her to Reno where they intended her to work for them as a prostitute, police said Wednesday.

The 19-year-old woman from Stockton, Calif., telephoned 911 emergency dispatch in Reno just after noon on Tuesday to report she'd been kidnapped by her boyfriend in her hometown and was being held in an unknown Reno apartment, police said.

Reno detectives confirmed the woman's mother in Stockton also had received a text message from her daughter that said she had been kidnapped.

The Stockton Police Department then initiated a kidnapping report and Reno detectives subsequently were able to identify a potential suspect in the abduction.

The victim indicated she had been brought to Reno in a White Ford Expedition or Explorer and officers spotted the suspect vehicle in the downtown casino district at about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers found it occupied by two males and a female who was in distress and confirmed she had been kidnapped, police said.

Justin Ray Walls, 20, and Jonathan C. Stige, 18, both were charged with kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

They were being held Wednesday in the Washoe County Jail.

The name of the victim was not released.
