The second meeting of the Capital Revitalization and Construction Advisory Committee will be held Thursday, October 18 at 8 AM at Sepulveda Elementary School, 5075 Ion Drive in Sparks (Spanish Springs).
The committee was created by the 2007 Nevada Legislature under
Senate Bill 154.
Its mission is to recommend new funding sources for school construction and revitalization for the Washoe County School District.
The sources of funding decided upon by the committee will be a ballot measure in the November, 2008 general election.
The agenda for the initial meeting includes a presentation from the
Washoe County School District on its capital funding needs.
Information presented to the 2007 Nevada legislature showed a shortfall
of $500 million between now and 2012.
Committee members are: Stephen Ascuaga (John Ascuaga's Nugget)
Shirley Beasley (PTA), Randy Brown (AT&T), Ken Buhrman (WEA), Skip Daley (Local #169), Perry DiLoreto (DiLoreto Construction and Development) Paul Dugan (WCSD), Penny Mayer (Mayer and Associates), Ellie Oppenheim (RSCVA) Greg Peek (ERGS) and Mary Simmons (Sierra Pacific Power).
Washoe County legislators sitting on the committee are Heidi Gansert
(R), Bernice Mathews (D), Debbie Smith (D) and Randolph Townsend (R), committee chairman.
The meeting is open to the public.
