Thanks to the City of Reno and the Northern Nevada's SPCA there's a special "pool party" going on this weekend. You're invited...and so is your dog!
The dog days of summer are gone, and so are all the swimmers.
On this lazy fall afternoon....just one person is doing laps in Idlewild Park.
By this time next week, this lonely pool will be closed so it can be drained, cleaned and propped for next summer. But before that happens, there will be one last "splash" with a pool party...for dogs and their owners.
Linda Drake, Ex. Director SPCA Northern Nevada, "I think its the best animal event I've ever seen."
Just five years ago, this pool party was called, "Dog Daze" and less than a hundred dogs and their dog loving owners "took the plunge."
But now that Reno's Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with the SPCA of Northern Nevada, this event, which is now called 4 PAWS, has grown...and now includes more than just a dip in the pool.
There will be vendors here, and an agility course for dogs. There will also be a pet psychic.
The SPCA will be having a microchip clinic so if you haven't microchiped your dog, you can come down and do that. It's a $20 fee.
Keep the cranky and mean dogs at home, because last year an estimated 550 dogs turned out to this event.
The 4PAWS Festival is this Saturday, September 25, at the Idlewild Park swimming pool--- from 10 until 4 in the afternoon.
