Double Murder Suspect Accused of Jail Assault

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Authorities say a 24-year-old Reno man awaiting trial in the slayings of his stepson and estranged wife's grandmother in Sparks has been accused of attacking a Washoe County jail deputy.

Washoe County Sheriff's Deputy Armando Avina tells the Reno Gazette-Journal that Justin Tu Ouimet punched a deputy in the face before the deputy was able to restrain Ouimet in his cell about 10:40 a.m. Saturday.

Avina says a felony battery on a police officer charge is being added to the murder and other charges Ouimet already faces.

Ouimet is accused of stabbing 62-year-old Lana Stone and 2-year-old Connor Lawrence to death Sept. 17.

Avina says Ouimet is segregated from other jail inmates pending an Oct. 6 hearing in Reno Justice Court.
