The Reno man accused of killing a toddler and his grandmother last Friday spent more than a year in the California prison system.

The California Department of Corrections confirmed that 24-year-old Justin Ouimet was sentenced for two years for felony vehicle theft in 2006.

A spokeperson for the department of Corrections said Ouimet committed his crime in Monterey County. He was release on parole on March 2007.

Ouiment was arrested Friday on suspicion of fatally stabbing Lana Stone, 62, and her grandson, Connor Lawrence, 2.

Stone’s granddaughter, who is also Connor’s mother, Danielle Lawrence, discovered the grisly scene at the grandmother's I Street home in Sparks Friday afternoon.

Authorities said Lawrence and Ouimet are in the midst of a divorce.

Ouimet is expected to appear in court for an initial appearance Wednesday morning in Sparks Justice Court.
