Reno Fire Department investigators say the cause of a fire that destroyed a manufactured home in Sun Valley Friday afternoon appears to be related to heating units that were in operation in the residence.

Arriving Reno firefighters reported the home at 5470 Quid Lane was more than 60 percent involved in fire and that the blaze had already vented through the roof of the structure.

Because of the extent and rapid extension of the fire on arrival measures were also immediately taken to protect adjacent structures while firefighters fought the blaze that was confined to the manufactured home structure.

Reno Fire investigators said a heater and wood stove were both in operation at the time of the fire and that the fire appears to have originated in the immediate area of those heating units.

The fire was reported at about 1:41 p.m. prompting response by about 24 fire personnel with four structure fire engines, a ladder truck, air support unit and including a battalion chief, safety officer and fire investigator.

The three residents of the mobile home were not at home when the fire broke out and although firefighters worked in deteriorated interior structural conditions, no injuries were reported.

Reno Fire officials on scene requested assistance from the American Red Cross for the three fire victims.
