Investigators who are trying to determine what caused a California man to lose control of his car and plunge 400 feet down a cliff into Lake Tahoe have determined two things.
His seat belt saved him.
He's darn lucky.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Scott Simon says the seat belt undoubtedly kept 56-year-old Guy Fortin of Elk Grove, California from being ejected. As the trooper puts it, "When a body hits the rocks, the body loses."
Investigators think the accident occurred at around daybreak, but because the beige car blended in with the rocks, it was not spotted by a fisherman for three hours.
Fortin is continuing to recover in a Reno hospital.
