A man faces up to 20 years in prison for the traffic accident that claimed the life of a mother of two while he was driving under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana.
Washoe District Judge Patrick Flanagan sentenced Wayne Wear to the maximum and said he only wished it could have been longer.
Flanagan also sentenced Wear to another four years in prison for drunken driving and leaving the scene of a March non-injury accident that occurred while he was awaiting his arrest for the November death of Norma Medina.
He wasn't immediately arrested because police had to wait for toxicology results to prove he had been under the influence of drugs.
Medina had been driving home from her job as a records clerk at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center when Wear's pickup struck her head-on at full speed.
Authorities said she died from severe head injuries.
