The Reno City Planning Commission approved changes to zoning rules, allowing a large condo project for the South Meadows to move forward.
The Boulevard South project includes several towers slated to be built near South Meadows Parkway and Double R. The proposal was before the Planning Commission two months ago, when some said the towers were too tall -- the plan called for two 30 story buildings.
After additional input from South Meadows residents, a new design proposes only one 30 story tower. The number of condos, roughly 1,700, will stay the same because other buildings will be heightened, according to a planner.
Proponents of the project say it will provide a place to live, work and recreate.
However, some area residents say the towers are not appropriate for the neighborhood. They also voiced concerns about traffic congestion at Wednesday's Planning Commission meeting.
The Reno City Council will ultimately have to approve the condo project.
