RENO, Nev. (AP) - A national magazine popular with outdoor enthusiasts has named Reno the best whitewater town in the country.
The current edition of Outdoor Magazine includes Reno as part of its annual "Best Towns" feature.
It says the Biggest Little City in the World's downtown rafting and kayaking park on the Truckee River boasts 11 pool drops, year-round flows and a prime location surrounded by green space and an island amphitheater.
The magazine notes that Reno "still conjures images of cowboy/gambling kitsch at its worst" but that it shouldn't, "at least not entirely."
The article lists the new Aces baseball stadium, affordable housing and renovated downtown area among other reasons to love Reno. It also mention's the new kayaking park in neighboring Sparks.
The whitewater parks are also one of the reasons cited by "National Geographic" magazine, which says Reno is one of the best adventure towns in the country.

Renovated downtown area? Give me a break. This sounds like something ghost-written by the Reno redevelopment agency. If you pay mags enough, they will print anything.
Maupin,Oregon will disagree :)
