Nevada College Grant Program for Military Expanded

LAS VEGAS (AP) - State Treasurer Kate Marshall and USAA are expanding a matching college grant program to help Nevada military parents plan for the children's education.

Marshall estimates 6,000 military families in Nevada with an adjusted gross household income of less than $75,000 will be eligible for the program.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the program will now be available to all active military, active reservists and members of the Nevada National Guard. It was originally available to Purple Heart Medal recipients.

Eligible families can earn up to $300 per year in matching grant funding, with a lifetime maximum benefit of $1,500 per child.

Applications for grants will be accepted through Dec. 15.
