RENO - The Nevada Department of Agriculture is urging people to keep a close eye on their pets. Four bats have tested positive for rabies in Washoe County.

The agency is urging all dog and cat owners to have their animals vaccinated against rabies. That includes indoor cats, because bats can get in and out of homes without being noticed.

If your pet, or someone in your family touches a bat, whether its dead or alive, you need to report it to animal control immediately. And get that person, or pet, to the doctor right away. Once symptoms of rabies appear, its almost always deadly.
