RENO, NV - By now the sounds of beeps and prompts and dispensing of the receipts have become quite familiar.
Only instead of being at a bank, we are at diapers.com, a major distribution center at Reno Tahoe Industrial Park--where workers can get their food faster, fresher, and don't have to fixate on change.
It’s called Avanti Markets.
You’ll notice there are no vending machines here, just coolers and shelves of snacks.
“You are limited by price points in a vending machine. You are limited by size. People, and, limited by unit price people will pay. People won't always pay a premium price to get something good out of a vending machine, but they will pay the premium price here,” says Mark Gregory with Avanti Markets.
Gregory says there will always be a call for a Coke or a Snickers bar.
That has not changed.
What Avanti Markets has made is a greater selections-- salads, ice cream, fruit, and even higher priced items like Sobe.
And then there's a way to pay.
A prepaid card the employees activate to purchase their items
It takes less time than a conventional vending machine, with no search for coins, and no chance an item will get stuck in a machine.
“It's a better experience, and they like it because they don't have to carry cash and they come and use their card and simply swipe it and go,” says Jeff Engelke, facility director with diapers.com.
The area is under surveillance 24-hours a day and monitored by remote by Avanti Markets.
Its ideal Gregory says for companies with 120 to 130 employees to set up the initial outlay.
Avanti Markets says it takes a day to transform a break room.
All employers have to have is power and the internet.
