LOS ANGELES (AP) - A man who claims he was Britney Spears' manager has taken the witness stand in his Los Angeles defamation lawsuit against her parents.
Sam Lutfi claims he became the singer's personal manager during the years of her well-publicized meltdown and deserves millions for his work.
He's suing over a book in which Spears' mother portrayed him as a Svengali-like figure who gave the singer drugs.
Lutfi testified Tuesday that he met Spears in a nightclub in 2007 and they became friends.
Lutfi told jurors that Spears later texted and called him in "crisis mode" as she dealt with her divorce and child custody battle.
Lutfi also claims he helped rein in paparazzi who dogged Spears.
The judge, meanwhile, has barred admission of Spears' medical records as testimony, calling them irrelevant.
