ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - Miss America is getting reacquainted with some old traditions as she returns to Atlantic City for the first time in nine years.
Organizers on Monday gave The Associated Press details of the Miss America Parade scheduled for Sept. 14. The parade is known for pageant contestants showing off their extravagantly decorated shoes.
When the pageant moved to Las Vegas, the parade went on hiatus for eight years.
Producer John Best says the 2013 edition will feature 4,000 participants, including 22 marching bands, two youth choirs, all the contestants and some former Miss Americas.
One float will include veterans back from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Miss America Organization CEO Sam Haskell says this year's parade will be televised live in Philadelphia.
