LOS ANGELES (AP) - Author Tess Gerritsen is suing the studio behind the hit film "Gravity," claiming it is based on one of her novels.
Gerritsen's lawsuit filed Tuesday against Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. seeks more than $10 million from the studio behind the Oscar-winning film, which starred Sandra Bullock.
Gerritsen sold the rights to her 1999 novel "Gravity" to a production company that is a wholly owned Warner Bros. subsidiary, and she is now seeking a percentage of the film's profits.
The novel features a medical doctor trapped in space after an organism infects her fellow astronauts and kills them. Her lawsuit states she added elements to a screenplay of the story that are similar to the film's plot.
Warner Bros. did not immediately comment on the lawsuit Wednesday.
Gerritsen is a New York Times bestselling author.
