Sparks/Reno, Nev. – As the star of more than 30 motion pictures, two Broadway shows and two television series, as well as dozens of television appearances, Debbie Reynolds continues to captivate audiences with her unforgettable performances. This legendary star shines once again, November 14-15, in the Celebrity Showroom at John Ascuaga’s Nugget.
Reynolds’ career began unexpectedly when she won a beauty contest at the age of 16. Two of the contest judges were scouts from Warner Brothers and MGM. When they heard Reynolds’ lip-synching rendition of Betty Hutton’s “I’m Just a Square in a Social Circle,” they took an interest and launched a career that would land Reynolds in the spotlight for life.
Reynolds made her screen debut with June Haver and James Baron in “The Daughter of Rosie O’Grady.” A subsequent performance in a Busby Berkley musical, “Two Weeks with Love,” convinced the legendary Louis B. Mayer to choose Reynolds for the leading female role in what became one of the greatest screen musicals of all time, “Singin’ In The Rain,” starring Gene Kelly and Donald O’Conner. Not yet 20, Reynolds proved her performing talent and went on to act in more then 25 films, including the Academy Award nominated, “The Unsinkable Molly Brown.”
Expanding her career to singing, Reynolds recorded hits such as, “Tammy,” “Am I that Easy to Forget” and “Cocktail Hour.” For the last 30 years Reynolds has been performing on the casino circuit. From Reno, to Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas and Atlantic City, Reynolds tours an average of 43 weeks a year.
Nearly all the money Reynolds earns is spent toward her goal of creating a Hollywood museum. Her current collection numbers more than 3000 costumes and 46,000 square-feet worth of props and equipment.
