Natchez Elementary Unveils Solar Power Project

Students and community members around Nachez Elementary School in Wadsworth celebrated a welcome new addition with barbeque, and their special guest - the sun. Thanks to Black Rock Solar these students are now harnessing the suns’ energy.

“We've figured out how to make solar power affordable,” says Tom Price of Black Rock Solar. “Solar power has always been expensive, but it doesn't have to be. Most of the money is in labor and mark up on materials. We get a good deal on equipment. We're not interested in making a profit, and we get people who are willing to work below market rates to help give back to the community.”

The project is estimated to save the school $360,00 in electricity costs over the next 25 years. Tom Price says Black Rock will continue to work to convert other schools to solar power. “We're not really wedded to being the people who do it,” he said. “In fact we would love it if people would start stealing our idea and run with it themselves. Remember in the old days, people use to get together to do a barn raising in a community. This is the same sort of thing except instead of building a barn we're building a power plant."
