October is breast cancer awareness month and throughout this week some Reno fire stations are going pink for the cause.
This year they’re swapping out their usual uniforms for pink t-shirts. Their hope is that by changing up their usual look, they’ll bring more attention to the disease. “We have a lot of our own members with family members fighting breast cancer and have been through it themselves, so it is important to us," says, firefighter Nick Kukulus.
A day before we arrived at the station, one firefighter’s wife found out she had to undergo chemotherapy. The news has fueled the station to sell more t-shirts. They go for 20 dollars each and the proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
You can grab one of these limited, pink t-shirts while supplies last at Sierra Fire Protection District Station #38, 16255 Mt. Rose Hwy.

I was a Firefighter in Oregon for almost 15 years before moving my family to Reno for a fresh start. I would love to purchase a t-shirt however, being new to the area I don't know where Mt. Rose Highway is. If someone from the Department can email me at medic7269@yahoo.com I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
