Volunteers are getting "Locomotive 25" ready for the 23rd Annual Santa Train in Carson City.

A special guest is making his way to the event right now. The Nevada State Railroad Museum hopes families come out this weekend and buy tickets which cost three dollars per seat.

Volunteers prepare for the event days before.

"We heated up the locomotive, got it full of steam, popped it off, and let a new trainee run it," says volunteer Barry Simcoe.

It's a process that's much easier said than done, but for volunteers like Simcoe, it's almost like an everyday job.

"People love it, it gives people a sense of old fashion Christmas and what Nevada was like a hundred years ago," Simcoe says.

He says it's neat to see kids riding in cars that are over a hundred years old. It takes volunteers between two and three hours to get the train ready.

"Santa is on the train, Santa greets all the kids on the train and they all get a candy cane," Simcoe says.

The event reminds Simecoe of his childhood. He rode the VNT in 1950 from Carson to Reno. It's a memory he say he'll never forget, and hopes the memory of Santa Train stays with kids forever.

They'll also be decorations set up in the museum. The event will be Saturday and Sunday in Carson City. It's from 9am to 4pm.
