AVA, Missouri (KOLOTV.com) -- It's not often you can buy sweets at decades-old prices, but that's exactly the case at a drug store in Ava, Missouri.
The Ava Drug Store, located near the city's town square, sells ice cream for 5¢ per scoop. You can buy as many as three scoops per visit.
A small soda also goes for just a nickel. If you want a large, though, you'll have to dig into your pockets for a dime.
This is actually the second incarnation of Ava Drug Store's soda fountain. The most recent opening took place in 2005.
Many of the store's customers are students from Ava's elementary/middle/high school complex, which is just a few blocks away. Students like it because it doesn't take a lot of money to satisfy their sweet tooth.
The soda fountain sells more than soda & ice cream, though. You can also buy items like burgers & shakes, although those aren't at the bargain-basement price of 5¢.
An employee at the store says she's heard of at least one other place in the United States (in Stanley, North Dakota) that sells sweets like ice cream & soda at extra-low prices, like Ava Drug does.
