The highly interactive programs explore a wide variety of art mediums, such as learning different rhythms, beats and instruments with the Reno Philharmonic Harp and Vibe ensemble. Artown and the Reno Philharmonic teamed up for a Harp & Vibe event at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center. Kids got the chance to listen to the harp and xylophone and then try their own hands at it.
The Reno Philharmonic does performances for local elementary schools during the school year. This is the second season they are pairing up with Artown to educate and entertain kids during the summer with these events. Discover the Arts works with a variety of artists and organizations throughout the area to expose children to all kinds of art forms including music, theater, visual arts and even art literature. Kids can also try their hand at activities, like painting.
Times and locations vary by day, however each Friday the series visits Miguel Ribera Park at 1:30pm for free ice cream from Model Dairy and Northern Nevada Dairymen. There are more than 20 Discover the Arts events during Artown this month. For a list of everything that's happening, go to www.renoisartown.com.
