While the thrill of barrel racing or bull riding and traveling around the west may sound like a dream, in reality, it's hard work. Being a rodeo pro means weeks if not months on the road, different towns every night, hard work and time away from your home, family and friends. While it may look fun, it's also a rough lifestyle.
Barrel racers and bull riders are passionate about their sport, and spend almost every waking moment honing their skills. It's not just the purse money that drives them to compete, but the thrill of the win, and the satisfaction of knowing their hard work, motivation and determination paid off.
Of course being a rodeo pro takes them away from home for weeks, or even months at a time. Living out of a suitcase, sleeping in hotels night after night can take its toll, but that just makes coming home even better.
