The party is drawing to a close at the Burning Man festival on the northern Nevada desert.
U.S. Bureau of Land Management officials say the crowd stood at
36,260 at noon Sunday after thousands of participants had headed
home.
The crowd for the weeklong celebration leading up to Labor Day
peaked Saturday at a record 49,599, up from 47,097 last year.
BLM officials say the eclectic art, music and performance
festival ran smoothly on the Black Rock Desert and no major
problems were reported.
They say there was substantially less dust today than Saturday,
when a dust storm chased away some participants before its
traditional climax.
The annual celebration of radical self-expression climaxed late
Saturday night with the torching of its 40-foot signature effigy.
