If you get caught speeding in a school zone, it will cost you. $145 dollars is the fine for whipping through a school zone. And, if you drive past a school bus that is stopped, the fine starts at $220.00.

Drivers are also reminded to stop at all crosswalks and watch out for children who dart in and out of traffic because they're not paying attention.

Parents should remind their kids to be extra careful around cars, walk only in crosswalks and walk in groups whenever possible.

Washoe County schools start their traditional school year on August 25th.
