Washoe County sheriff's deputies are cracking down on illegal riding of off-road vehicles.

The sheriff's office says its receiving increasing complaints from people concerning dirt bikes and four-wheelers disturbing residents.

Authorities say county code makes it illegal to ride such vehicles within 500 feet of a dwelling owned or occupied by someone else.

The law also prohibits riding within the same distance if it disturbs "peace and quiet" of any other person.

The sheriff's office also reminds off-road riders that many vehicles aren't equipped to legally drive on public roadways.

Operation on public roads also requires a valid driver's license.

I feel that we should be able to ride our motorcycles or ATV's anywhere we wuold like. You pay for a permit when you purchase an ATV. When did we become such a cranky state. If you dont like people riding then move. I would rather see young people out riding then getting in trouble using drugs or alcohol. We are a free county so lets keep it that way.
