The Nevada Highway Patrol says a horseback rider and her mount were killed after the animal bolted into traffic along a busy highway in Spanish Springs.
Sixty-three year old Frances Capurro of Sparks was riding her horse yesterday (Sunday) afternoon along Pyramid Highway when the animal spooked, darted into traffic and was struck by a car.
A trooper put down the horse at the scene.
Capurro was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center, where she
died last night.
The driver of the car was not injured.
Authorities say the speed limit in the area is 65 mph.
