SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) Reed high school running back Josiah Schmidt has been named the Tuff Shed Stud of the Week by the Sports Caravan.
"It feels great," said Schmidt "It's an amazing honor with all these athletes that receive this award and I'm glad to be a part of it again. I won it last year, I'm glad to be it again."
Schmidt accounted for 160 yards of total offense in the Raiders' 34-6 win over Douglas last week. That included 50 yards rushing, 90 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Schmidt ran in one TD, and passed for two more. He's now thrown three touchdowns in two games this season.
"He's a great leader because he doesn't say a whole bunch," said head coach Tony Amantia. "He leads by example. He gives you everything he's got everyday in the weight room, out on the field, and in the classroom. He's definitely a guy who helps lead our program by example."
Schmidt has run for 219 yards and two TD's this season, averaging 8.1 yards per carry.
