LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KOLO) Prior to the start of the 2018 Mountain West Women’s Basketball Tournament, Nevada senior forward Teige Zeller has been named to the All-Mountain West team.
Zeller, who receives the first all-conference honor of her career, joins nine others from around the league to earn the distinction. This is the first All-Mountain West team selection for a Nevada women’s basketball player since Mimi Mungedi earned the honor in 2015. Former student-athletes Nyasha LeSure and Stephanie Schmid earned honorable mentions in each of the last two seasons.
Playing in her final season for the Wolf Pack, Zeller has put together a remarkable senior campaign. Through regular season play, Zeller ranks 10th in the Mountain West in scoring (14.0 ppg) and is third in rebounding (8.6 rpg). She has produced a career-high 10 double-doubles and six 20-point performances. Her shooting percentage of 50.3 percent ranks in the top five in the conference. Additionally, Zeller’s points and rebounding totals this season have set career highs for the New Mexico native.
Along with a 10-person all-conference team, the conference office also announced a six-person all-defensive team, a six-person all-freshmen squad and six major awards winners. Wyoming picked up three of the six major awards including Player of the Year (Liv Roberts), Sixth Player of the Year (Marta Gomez) and Coach of the Year (Joe Legerski). UNLV’s Brooke Johnson was named the Defensive Player of the Year, New Mexico’s Tesha Buck earned Newcomer of the Year honors and Kaelin Immel of Air Force was selected as Freshman of the Year.
Nevada opens the 2018 Mountain West Tournament later this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. from the Thomas & Mack Center against the 10th-seeded San Diego State Aztecs.
