CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) Carson high school senior Abel Carter has been named the Tuff Shed Stud of the Week by the Sports Caravan.

"It's definitely a great honor," said Carter. "I worked hard, so I feel like I deserve it I guess. But it's a great honor."

Carter is one of just a handful of players to ever earn this honor during a losing effort.

He ran for 247 yards on just 25 carries in the Senators' 42-35 loss to 6th-ranked Galena on Friday night. He scored all five of Carson's touchdowns, and also made ten tackles and recovered two fumbles on defense.

'"He's a big part of our squad, there's no question," said head coach Blair Roman. "And the biggest compliment I can give Abel; he was an All-region linebacker as a junior. You know, honestly, he's become a total complete player this year."

Carter has embraced the leadership role on the team this season, growing into one of the best players in Northern Nevada.

"Coming into my sophomore year I was like 160 pounds and now I'm up to like 200," added Carter. "And I think I'm faster. Now I'm running a 4.5, so I really improved there. And I work hard in the weight room everyday."

Carson (3-3) has a bye this week before they host 4th-ranked Bishop Manogue (4-2) on next Friday, October 13th.
