RENO, Nev. ---- The Reno Bighorns (19-14) defeated the Texas Legends (21-14) 155-141 Monday afternoon in a matinee matchup at the Reno Events Center in front of a sellout crowd.
Marcus Williams led the Bighorns with 26 points and six assists while Aaron Harrison had 25 points and sic assists. Sacramento Kings Two-Way Player Jack Cooley recorded his fourteenth double-double of the season with 22 points and 13 assists.
Donald Sloan paced the Legends with 33 points and three rebounds while Brandon Ashley had 28 points and eight rebounds.
In the opening minutes of the first quarter, the Legends would take an 8-4 lead over the Bighorns, battling to control the game’s tempo. Reno would rally back to come within striking distance early in the first, but Texas would carry a five-point edge heading into the second frame.
Reno re-grouped in the second quarter, executing their offense to outscore Texas 41-28. The Bighorns found their footing early in the first frame to combat the 11-2 start from Texas. The Bighorns held the Legends to a 42.1% team shooting effort in the frame. The Bighorns entered the locker room at the half with a 73-65 lead.
Reno continued to carry the momentum through the third frame shooting 66.7% from distance compared to Texas’ 57.1%. The Legends cut the deficit to six points twice before Reno would open their lead up to as many at 17 points behind Williams’ 23 points in the quarter behind a 7-8 shooting effort. Reno had a 10-point cushion heading into the final frame.
The Bighorns continued to build their advantage to as many as 26 points in the final frame to secure the lead and a season high score of 155 points.
The Bighorns will host the South Bay Lakers on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.
