YERINGTON, Nev. (KOLO) Yerington high school junior Marcellus Schaefer has been chosen for the USA 18-under baseball team that will compete in the Latin American Baseball Classic this summer.

"I get to represent my tribe from Schurz, Nevada, I get to represent my state, and along with my country," said Schaefer. "It's an awesome opportunity."

He is the only player from the state of Nevada selected for the international tournament roster, where he'll be a pitcher for Team USA. The 6-foot-1, 240-pounder hits 84 miles per hour on the radar gun.

"I crave competition. I love it and to be able to get more competition, play against better players, it's just an awesome opportunity."

The Latin American Baseball Classic takes place August 1st through the 7th in the Dominican Republic.
