Pedestrian hit and killed in Fernley was teenage boy

FERNLEY, Nev. (KOLO) -- The Nevada Highway Patrol and Lyon County Sheriff's Office are investigating a fatal crash between a minivan driver and 17-year-old boy along U.S. Highway 50 Alternate near Pioneer Crossing in Fernley.

The victim, a pedestrian, was flown to a hospital in Reno, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released. He was not in a crosswalk, according to NHP Trooper Dan Gordon.

The crash took place at 6:14PM Monday, March 13, 2017. NHP says the driver of the minivan stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. There is no word yet whether the driver was impaired, and circumstances of the crash have not fully been determined.
