University of Nevada revokes fraternity recognition

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The University of Nevada Reno has officially removed its recognition of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity. That means the fraternity will not be afforded the "rights, privileges and resources" available to organizations recognized by the school.

On May 22, 2017, the Office of Student Conduct held a hearing on SAE for violations based on the University's Student Code of Conduct, the 2016 Relationship Agreement for the Recognition of Social Fraternities and Sororities, and the University of Nevada Reno Residence Based Alcohol Policy.

The Student Code of Conduct hearing recommended a loss of recognition for four years.

By denying the appeal, the four year loss of recognition now officially stands.
