UNR Police warning of Craigslist scam

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Police at the University of Nevada, Reno are investigating a scam involving the use of the Craigslist website.

February 2, 2018, police took a report from a resident who had met a man in front of Lawlor Events Center at UNR to buy tickets to the Bill Burr comedy show later that evening at the Reno Ballroom downtown. She had learned of the tickets through the site.

Once the victim paid for the tickets and was inside the venue for the show, she found several other people had tickets for the same seat in the same row. Police are looking to talk to some of those other apparent victims.

The man selling the tickets is described as tall and about six feet, with a shaved or bald head, dark denim jeans and a bright blue jacket. He was described to have a Russian accent and told victims his first name was Joel.
