RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -- It was a day of giving thanks. For the Reno firefighters at Station One near downtown Reno, it wasn't their traditional Thanksgiving meal, but it was Thanksgiving meal nonetheless.
"It’s a lot like being at home with your family, but it's a different family," said Mike Bartlett, Reno Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedic.
The Thanksgiving meal included ham, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, dinner rolls, broccoli and pumpkin pie. It was prepped by the Station One firefighters.
A call can easily ruin their Thanksgiving dinner plans, but these firefighters know what they signed up for.
"There is an expectation that you will not have a warm meal," said Capt. Greg Garman.
Each firefighter at Station One pitched in for Thanksgiving dinner and a few community members donated the pumpkin pies.
