RENO, Nev. (KOLO)-- A Sun Valley man will serve eight to 20 years in prison for the Aug. 31 robbery of a Kwik Serve gas station in Sparks.
Washoe Distrrict Court Judge Jerry Polaha sentenced Christopher Kyle Mateo, 29, on Tuesday for robbery with the use of a deadly weapon, being an ex-felon possessing a firearm and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Mateo got six to 10 years in prison on those charges and had an additional 10 years added for using a gun, the Washoe County District Attorney's Office reported.
Mateo got $1,700 in the heist when he pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money. Before leaving, Mateo asked someone on a walkie-talkie if it was safe to leave, the district attorney's office said. The Sparks Police Department used surveillance footage to identify Adam Lavelle Johnson Sr., 32, of Sparks as a suspect. Both were arrested.
Johnson pleaded guilty in December 2015 to robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery and was sentenced to 4.5 to 15 years in prison.
