Search ends for Sparks man lost off Oregon coast

BROOKINGS, Ore. (KOLO) - The US Coast Guard and Oregon State Police have called off the search for a man swept off rocks into the Pacific Ocean.

State Police say about 10:30AM January 3, 2018, troopers from the Gold Beach work site and the Coast Guard responded to the report of a man swept by waves into the ocean near Indian Sands Trail. That's near the city of Brookings, off Highway 101 in Curry County.

The victim was identified by a traveling companion as 21-year-old Christopher M. Kareck of Sparks. The search effort was called off after two days when no sign of him was found.
