LAS VEGAS (KOLO) - Six cats died in a Las Vegas fire on Friday and a dog is missing, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue reported.

The fire north of Chinatown and west of The Strip at 3920 Blackford Place was reported about 3:40 p.m. when people saw smoke coming from a townhouse.

Firefighters forced their way into the home and found the kitchen on fire and had the fire out in a few minutes. While the kitchen suffered major damage, there was only minor to moderate smoke damage in the rest of the unit. Firefighters estimated the damage at $25,000.

It appears the fire started on the stove but the cause remains under investigation.

Two adults and two children were displaced.
